Well, I honestly don’t adore them always. I’m finding that it ain’t always easy starting over. Since my ‘big chop’ most days are fine, but some few days are like, “What am I supposed to DO with this?!” I’m beginning to hit that in-between stage in my hair growth journey where it’s no longer super short + sassy, but not quite headband/hair do-dad worthy yet. I didn’t have a plan when I cut it + still don’t. But I fear not. When I get into a funk about my short do, I find sites of inspiration of other broads around the world rocking tresses like mine. This one is conveniently named ‘Le Coil‘
I got this top during a quick day trip to Galveston. The unfortunate thing is, these shots neglect to show the delicate details of the camisole. 100% Silk breezy outer shell attached to a light rayon camisole underneath. Originally priced at $124 marked down to TEN BUCKS - Do you hear what I’m sayin!? Impossible to resist a deal like that. It’s the kinda thing that will balloon to flaunt the silk piece in a nice gusty breeze. It’s a shame Houston doesn’t hardly have those *sad face*
Other random Galveston finds include these i/denti/tee shirts. The caught my attention because I thought they were packaged pretty cool to look JUST like vinyls + they are kept in a crate too boot! Each shirt has a recognizable lyric on the front + you get 10 free downloads on itunes per purchase. If you ask me, you PAY for songs – these tee shirts cost $39.95 a pop. Still kinda cool none-the-less.
Here’s the bin we found that rad camisole from that over-priced boutique on the Strand in Galveston. We found not one, but TWO in size smalls and another in size medium. The shop owner said that no one would even try them on. WHAT!?? Me and my friend RAN. Who would’ve thunk it?
Last but not least – Cowboy rainboots. I had both shop employees on my tail over-greeting us since we were the only folks in there, but as soon as she turned around I snapped the best phone photo I could because you just HAD to see this.
Clever. I mean as you know, we do get high water + we do love our boots here. Leave it to good ol’ Texas for something like this ;)
Etsy Craft Parties were happening in cities all over the world this last Friday. In my hometown the Etsy Houston group, with sponsorship help from St. Arnold’s brewery and Etsy of course, hosted the party at Houston’s first craft studio + sewing lounge – Sew Crafty.
My first love is sewing + fabrics, but I couldn’t help but take some shots of the randomly cute crafty products that they sell in the store.
The meet-up for Houston was packed out! Free food/boozage consumption, laughter + major crafting was happening in every area of the lounge. With a turnout of over 100 folks, it was definitely a huge success with a few ‘fan yourself’ moments – it got HOT!
Here’s a short video I put together showing some of the mayhem that went on during the event.
(You can also check out the awesome photo slideshow created by Etsy Houston here.)
When I wasn’t running around filming, chatting + eating, I managed to get in on the crafting too. I did the ‘fused plastics’ out of pink Forever 21 bags.
So I’m thinking maybe I’ll later fuse this into a journal cover or perhaps a reusable envelope pocket thingy?? With crafting the possibilities are endless!
Here’s a story about a $4 dress made out of bandanas from Walmart. It’s actually more like a short-story with lots of pictures. Please note that I HATE shopping at Walmart!!! [Insert obscenities here]
I’m ok. Here goes.
One day, there was a girl that bought 4 bandanas from her local Walmart.
The price for each bandana was one dollar. Even though the girl hated this place, this made her very happy.
[cue victorious smile]
After bringing them home, she pulled out a pattern she’d never tried before – Butterick (B5216) tunic pattern. She chose pattern option C.
Because the lower front + lower back pattern pieces were a little larger than the bandana, she had to make a slight modification.
Meet Janelle Monae – Pint sized beauty with an amazing voice.
Her first time in Houston, TX to headline for Erykah Badu’s show at the Verizon Wireless venue later that night. She generously performed a FREE in-store show at Cactus Music record store for a packed audience. This lil’ mama gave quite the performance + stayed to sign and do a meet n’ greet with her fans. She also made funny faces for each photo op. Mine was no exception.
(Ignore me. I’m cheezin’ WAY too hard in this photo)
Here’s a acoustic version of her single “Tightrope” from her new album ‘ArchAndroid.’ The less-than-stellar video quality on my camera doesn’t do her voice justice + the guy’s head in front of me is rather large (putting it nicely). But you more than get the idea :)
I was raised to believe birthdays aren’t just considered valid on that specific day. In my house your birthday was celebrated + acknowledged for an ENTIRE WEEK. That’s the way I’m raising my kids, and that’s how they will raise their kids + so on. My 27th birthday was officially on June 7th and my high isn’t going anywhere until this coming Monday.
My initial plan was to look up an amazing cake recipe from Smitten Kitchen and make a semi-exotic and beautiful cake and its associated icing from scratch. *Pffft!* Sounded like work to me!! It had been ages since I had one of those yellow box cakes. You know, the ones that never cost more than a few cents over the dollar + are ‘oh-man-there’s-no-way-i-can-mess-this-up’ proof. I got good ‘ol Pillsbury, because I trust that little dough-man. (Although, his eyes are kinda creepy don’t you think!??)
I bought a straight up YELLOW cake, but notice in the picture above it says Golden Butter Recipe? Yeah. That’s because my parents started eating the first cake while it was cooling + this is box #2. I took this picture today!! *sigh*
Regardless, my birthday hasn’t been short of AMAZING!!! To kick start the celebration early, my bestfriend + her fiancee bought me two-day ‘Fancy Pants’ tickets to FreePress SummerFest Houston – only one of the biggest + best outdoor experiences Houston has to offer!!
Here’s me on my actual birthday. I originally hadn’t planned to do anything for my birthday, but the day before I got a pretty sizeable group together for HappyHour at Benjy’s. Their mushroom pizza + calamari are slap-yo-mama good ya’ll! And of COURSE I bought something to wear the day of. A black cocktail dress never hurt any girl’s birthday occasion right?
I think it’s safe to say that 27 will be the best of my adult years yet! :)
Two things. First off, Etsy.com is having its birthday on Friday, June 18th. On that day, cities all over the world are having craft parties! Sew Crafty is hosting the Houston craft party. I hear there’s plenty of St. Arnold’s (root)beer, free food + it’s absolutely FREE for all!! If you are interested, check for one in your local area.
(*PSSSST* Houston sign up here!!! )
By the way, you do NOT have to have an Etsy account to participate.
And secondly, ROXY (i heart Roxy) is having a bikini design contest. Check it!
You have until July 31, 2010 at 11:59pm EST
One entry per user + winners are selected and notified on or around September 15, 2010.
You don’t have to be a ‘designer’ + you don’t have to know how to draw or anything. We’ve all had an idea for a cute bikini before.
Seriously, come on now. It’s $5000 bucks….you should at LEAST consider it ;)
