When midnight came, a huge sigh of relief + great expectations for a new year followed suit. That dust-yourself-off-and-try-again feeling as we raised our plastic champagne glasses (you know, the ones with the bottoms that fail to stay connected with the rest of the cup) and counted down with the TV for the new year, it was great to be among friends and to know that we all made it! BUT before I go on, allow me to catch-up on the last couple weeks.
Started with a friend’s birthday gathering. Ate dinner that evening outside and it was quite nippy, even for Houston. We later hung out at a bar for drinks on the patio, huddled up to one of those outside warmers. Front-side of my body was sweltering and my booty was left out in the cold. I don’t handle temp changes so well and got sick with a sore throat and allergies the next morning. My mother pulled out this old adult-sized onesie with reindeers and snowmen on it + begged me to at least try it on. *sigh* It’s like the Snuggie’s predecessor with built-in feet and all! Don’t even know why we own this garment, but embarrassing as this thing is – it’s SO freaking warm. I wore it 2 days straight and didn’t leave the house or answer the door.
Looking like a straight-up fool, but cozy!

Next up was making some pajama pants!

Sewing the assembling the cut fabric + adding the pocket pieces…

Sewing the drawstring to the elastic back + feeding it through the waistband casing…

And here’s the final product :)

I didn’t make this pair for myself, but I found some fabric that I may do for my pair! They’re adorably cute, but permitted for inside the house wear only.

Christmas morning. I made a ‘continental’ breakfast for the old folks. Mmmmm, healthy stuff. I went all out for dinner though :)

It was a few days after Christmas til I realized that I didn’t know what to wear for NYE *shaking head* So of course I begin working on a dress on Dec. 29th! It’s similar to my Egyptian costume dress actually, but I tweaked the pattern some.
I already had some black fabric, but that day I rushed to JoAnn’s and bought the red and black striped fabric. It was discounted 60% because it was considered ‘holiday fabric’ – I got 2 yards for $3.99/yd.

At first I wanted the entire dress out of the red fabric, but like HELL I was going to be able to match up those stripes around my top half! I opted for a black top and a red bottom, but I wanted the skirt to be ‘tiered’ so I cut + measured for two.

So, we all know how procrastination goes. Even though I didn’t have a lot of time, did I use my time wisely? Course not. I cut out all of the pieces on day one (Dec. 29th) + didn’t even start again til 9ish the next evening. Here’s me at 2:35 am (technically Dec. 31st)! No zipper yet, because of course I forgot to get it. I’m just holding it together in the back to show progress…

So, NYE morning I’m racing to JoAnn’s for a zipper. Should’ve been about a 5 minute transaction BUT the Vogue patterns were on sale for $3.99 (THAT’S A STEAL) I found this pattern – need this like a hole in the head.

Cute though right?
So anyway. Back at home & I totally forget that some of my family were coming over! I sewed in the zipper, but I still had hemming, lining, and I wanted to put a wide band around the top bodice piece to achieve that ‘high-waisted’ look. Pfff, yeah right. GAME OVER.
I dropped everything at about 3pm and enjoyed spending time with my family. Needless to say I didn’t finish, and I ended up going super casual that evening to my best friend’s shindig instead. Jeans, white tank, scarf.
Foosball tourney, great friends, Super Mario Kart, champagne, food, food, food, & LOTS of laughter.

we.had.fun.
